So, I must say that I truly believe that I had an extremely blessed 22nd year. This past year of life has been full of so much change, adventure, growth, and happiness. As I head into my Jordan year, I wanted to reflect on the many blessings that this past year has brought. This is just an overview of the many amazing things I've experienced this year and many I STILL have to create a full blog post for.
Last year, ironically I celebrated my 22nd birthday with two of my best friends Nicole and Deidrea by going up to LA which is the city I now live in. We had breakfast at the amazing Blu Jam Cafe, visited Griffith Observatory, MacArthur Park, The Americana at Glendale, and the Pasadena Flea Market. I have always been fascinated with LA and have been to these places before. But I remember that time specifically, looking out at LA over the Griffith Observatory and feeling this pull.
Rise Festival - Mojave Desert
On October 10th, I attended the Rise Festival with my best friend Deidrea, cousin Marie, and her friend Tina. Ever since the movie Tangled, I've ALWAYS wanted to be a part of a lantern festival. It was definitely as magical as I expected and quite the adventure. From being stuck in traffic and having to pee on the side of the freeway with Marie to the instant struggle of successfully launching a lantern. This experience gave a new definition to a beautiful struggle.
Sequoia National Park
I went to Sequoia National Park for the first time and it was quite the adventure. I still need to make a full blog post about this trip so I won't go into too much detail. This was one of my favorite trips and I would say that my life changed after this trip in a very wonderful way.
Make Life Count was born
If you don't know - Me, Marie, and Carmelisa started a small business in October called Make Life Count as a friendly reminder that life is more than just existing but living. To remind people not to get too busy making a life that they forget how to live. I know I've talked a bit about it before but check out our website www.makelifecount.co if you want to learn more (:
Camp Flog Gnaw
In November, I went to my first ever music festival! It was sooooo lit.
Opted Out with REI
On Black Friday, I opted out with REI. Instead of going Black Friday shopping - I hit the outdoors with some awesome people. It was a mission but a very adventurous day. We unexpectedly ran into snow and that was the highlight of that day.
Purchased a Car
With my sister just months away from turning 16, it was time to give up the beautiful Acura RSX that my parents bought for me when I turned 16 and hand it down to my sister. This meant...I was going to have to get a new car. I decided on a new 2015 Honda Civic and I love it. I do miss my Acura but this was my first big girl purchase and a huge mile stone for me.
Mammoth For The First Time
I've been snowboarding before and absolutely love it! I got to go to Mammoth for the first time and I have never experienced snowboarding like that before. The snow was sooooo soft I often got stuck. Though I fell off the ski lift and got a minor concussion it was an awesome experience!
Hawaii With MLC and Friends
It's sooooo crazy how this whole trip happened. Lisa was telling Marie and I about a deal to fly to Hawaii. About 20 minutes later and typing in all caps we had all bought our plane tickets. It was a really cool experience! We met some cool new people and I think one of my favorite parts was riding in the back of a truck with the wind blowing in my face.
Got my College Degree!
In May, I received my bachelor of arts degree in Human Development and made my family proud! I still can't even believe this happened...
I Left My Job of 3 Years ;(
I worked at a before and after school program for 3 years. This was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. I had THE BEST coworkers! I don't even think I'd call them coworkers because they are family. I'm seriously soooo blessed to have come across them because I truly do care and love them forever. When you have to put up and handle a bunch of middle schoolers....your bond is unbreakable. I also was blessed to be able to watch a group of kids grow throughout their entire middle school career. When I started I was stuck...I mean placed with lol the sixth graders and when I left those same kids were promoting onto high school. It was such a bittersweet feeling to leave because that place truly left an impact me and I'm forever grateful for that experience. But it's such an amazing thing to be able to still influence my former students through social media and to be able to see them and their accomplishments.
Chicago For the First Time
I got to go to Chicago for the first time with B! He bought me tickets as my graduation present and we got to explore Chicago in so many awesome ways! From biking 20 miles in one day all over the city, to on a boat on the river, to up top on the roofs of skyscrapers...it was such a memorable trip. I fell in love with that city in the short amount of time that we were there.
Hawaii For The Second Time This Year With My Family
My family and I have been blessed to have been able to go to Hawaii for the 9th time together this year. It's always such a wonderful and beautiful week we get to share together admiring God's amazing creation together. Every year we go together it always becomes more and more special and I hope that we always continue these trips because I am always so grateful for the time we share.
I Moved to Los Angeles
The day after we got back from Hawaii, I moved up to Los Angeles. Los Angeles was always a city that I was intrigued by and have always wanted to experience what it's like to live there. From the culture, music, and digital media that this city entails I knew it was a place where I could utilize my different skill sets and grow.
Started a New Job
The day after I moved up to Los Angeles I started my new job at Jukin Media. It's a switch from what I was doing before but an experience I took because I knew I wanted to gain more experience in media.
First Trip as MLC in Yosemite
My last day being 22 I spent in the beautiful Yosemite. It was the very first trip that we officially hosted! It was stressful but I got to see beautiful sights and learned a lot. It was definitely a trip full of learning and growth so it only made sense that it was how I kicked off my 23rd year.
Prayers For 23
I pray that my 23rd year will continue to be full of new experiences, learning, growth, love, change, and happiness. Though I've been experiencing a lot of change lately I pray that I will always have the strength to never let fear get in the way of my growth. I pray that I will fulfill the desire to create change and make differences not only in myself but those around me. I pray that I never stop being a student; that I always continue to look forward to new experiences and the eagerness to learn. I pray that I will always work hard to be better than I was yesterday. I pray that the relationships in my life will remain strong, healthy, and full of unconditional love. I am thankful for such a beautiful and blessed life and I look forward to what 23 has ahead.
